Job Title:             Senior Care Worker

Salary:                 £26,448.24 per annum (£12.11 per hour)

The Shires currently has an exciting and challenging career opportunity for an experienced support worker with recent experience of working within a similar setting. You must also have a proven ability to manage and support a team, set high standards of care and professionalism and lead shifts.

We want each person at The Shires to achieve their own ambitions, live fulfilling and productive lives and be an active part of the community. Therefore, you will be required to work from 07:00 – 21:00 on a two day on, two day off, rota. During these hours you will be required to assist with any problems or personal care needs the children have and assist with the day to day activities of the children. This will include being responsible for safeguarding ensuring they are all safe, comfortable and healthy, getting the children up and ready for their day, helping with education, cooking, cleaning and homework and ensuring a night routine is followed.

Other duties include assisting with outings, liaising with other staff, working to agreed care plans and keeping the homes clean and leading a team.

About the Site

The Shires consists of three sites all within a 15 minute drive of one another. We have two Special Educational Needs (SEN) Schools and 3 Residential homes.  We help care for and support 8 Adults aged 19-25 who have been diagnosed with Autism and may have accompanying learning disabilities, behavioural problems or medical conditions.

Who are we looking for?

The Shires need a responsible, friendly and caring individual who has a passion for caring for and ultimately, making a difference to children’s lives. It will be a challenging yet rewarding role with the opportunity to see the young people grow and develop over time.

We also need someone who can work well within a team, has great communication skills, can manage their workload and be prepared for the varying difficulties the role may present.

You must have a NVQ 3 in Health and social care and have recent experience working with Special Education Needs children.

  • Attend to all the personal, physical and mental needs of the children
  • Support and develop the mental and physical health and wellbeing of individuals within the service
  • Help integrate the children into the community
  • Help improve the standard of living and confidence of each child
  • Integrate into the supportive team
  • Liaise with other staff with the best interests of the young people in mind
  • Be prepared in the case of a fire and act appropriately
  • Manage a team
