Up to £33,000 DOE

Permanent, full time 39 week contract

Mon/Wed 8.30am - 5pm; Tues/Thurs/Fri 8.30am - 4.30pm

 

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our clinical team based at Upton Grange School, Slough, Berkshire.  This is an excellent time to join the team as they expand their clinical provision, having a real impact and implementing a holistic, therapeutic approach.

About us:

Upton Grange School, is a new specialist ASD provision due to open in February 2021. As part of the Hillingdon Manor group of schools and the Outcomes First Group, Upton Grange will offer day provision to children with Autism from the ages of 4 to 11 years old.

Upton Grange is located in Slough, within a 5 minute drive of Junction 5 of the M4. The location has excellent transport links with Slough Railway Station (Great Western main line and Cross Rail – to London and Reading) being a 10 minute walk/5 minute bus journey to the site. Salary is competitive, depending on experience.

Upton Grange will provide specialist education for c35 pupils, aged between 4-11 years. The new provision will work closely with our existing primary school, Yiewsley Grange, which supports around c60 pupils. Upton Grange will deploy a wide range of teaching strategies to engage and develop the progress of learners, who present with a range of learning difficulties and styles. Our pupils are taught in smaller class sizes and work towards an Equals Semi-Formal Curriculum and National Curriculum expectations where appropriate.

About the Role

The successful applicant will work alongside a Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Lead and our Regional Head of Clinical Services in delivering the best possible outcomes to those within our care at Upton Grange School and across Hillingdon Manor Schools. There will also be the opportunity to be part of the wider multi-disciplinary clinical team based across Hillingdon Manor sites.  The large OT team will support supervision, training and continued professional development of the postholder.

 

In brief the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking all aspects of Occupational Therapy clinical duties within the designated provision(s) to children and young people.
  • Carrying out assessments of clients with diverse presentations to identify needs.
  • Designing and delivering individualised intervention programmes based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and interventions.
  • Report writing, attending and facilitating multi-professional reviews.
  • Working collaboratively with others to promote the wellbeing and best interests of the children and young people and the effectiveness of the service in achieving its aims and objectives, ensuring a high quality service provision in line with best practice guidelines and internal policies and procedures.
  • Represent the Occupational Therapy service, the wider service and/or individual at Clinical Wellbeing and multi-disciplinary team meetings, to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service that integrates Occupational Therapy interventions into the intervention/ support programme.

 

Key Skills Required

As a qualified Occupational Therapist, the following criteria are essential

  • Recognised Occupational Therapist degree and evidence of relevant post-qualification CPD
  • HCPC registration
  • Relevant post-registration experience working with children and young people, recent grads not suitable.
  • Good knowledge of relevant standardised assessments, evaluation and evidence based therapeutic interventions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Full valid UK driving licence and access to a car

Desirable: Experience working with children who have autism and/or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
