About Acorn Park

Acorn Park is a unique 30-­acre private estate, where children and adults across the breadth of the autistic spectrum can live, learn and play in a holistic, happy & safe environment.  The site comprises of Acorn Park School, Acorn Park Residential and Acorn Park Adult Services. We currently have vacancies for Support Workers on our Adult Services team.

 

Acorn Park Adult Services opened in 2008 as a care home for adults aged 18 – 65 with an autistic spectrum condition, associated social communication difficulties and complex needs. We offer a 52 week a year placement.  The emphasis at Acorn Park Adult Services is placed on developing and maintaining independence skills, supporting community inclusion, and gaining life skills whilst recognising individual strengths and celebrating successes.

 

About the role

The philosophy of the home is to enable adults to reside in an environment which enables them to continue to develop their independence, gain life skills and experiences while in a safe, secure, consistent, and understanding environment.  The service specialises in helping each adult to reach their potential socially and emotionally. Therefore, you will spend your time supporting the adults with everyday activities; cooking, playing games, integrating into the community, and going on outings. A main responsibility of the role is safeguarding the adults within the service and ensuring their physical, emotional, and personal care needs are met.

 

Duties include;

  • Being a positive role model for the adults, presenting yourself in a highly professional manner at all times, safeguarding the adults within the provision
  • Working inline with adult support plans and risk assessments
  • To provide and maintain good professional relationships with other members of staff and other interested parties, to contact parents, families, social services and key stakeholders professionally as required.
  • Promoting structure, boundaries and domestic routines; ensuring a pleasant, clean and safe environment for the adults in your care
  • Providing practical support and supervision to the adult, both individually and in groups, in daily living and social skills in accordance with, enabling them to take as much responsibility as possible for all aspects of their daily life.
  • Ensuring high standards of personal hygiene for each adult and supporting them with personal care needs.
  • Undertaking relevant training programmes as required by the standards as set by The Care Quality Commission and make every effort to further knowledge and understanding relating to support of adults with autism and learning difficulties.
  • Working in partnership with colleagues and other professionals to meet the social, emotional, education, health and mental health needs of the adults.
  • Following company policies, procedures and guidelines

 

 

Essential Requirements

  • We can consider applicants with no previous industry experience and experienced Support Workers for this role, the salary will vary dependent upon experience and qualifications already obtained
  • All applicants must be willing to work towards, or already hold the Level 2 Diploma is Health & Social Care (Adults)
  • Keen to learn with a positive, passionate and enthusiastic approach
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to record information accurately
  • Full UK driving licence
