Voluntary Garden Project at Hillcrest Spinney House

Hillcrest Spinney House recently had a visit from Nicholson’s Landscaping, introduced to the service by Rose, Residential Care Worker at the home who had previously worked with them on a project.

The initiative all started when Nicholson’s came to Hillcrest Spinney House last year to chat to the team about designs and ideas for their garden, as well as the children’s needs and wishes to develop it into a space that everyone could enjoy and maintain.

A year later and the kind and generous volunteers have planted fruit trees, made a seating area and also planted a number of flowers, vegetables and herbs in the garden.

When the young people returned from school their faces lit up and they couldn’t wait to start exploring the new area. The children now take it in turns to do watering duties and they are very excited that there will be fruit from the trees (plum, apricot, pear, apple) to eat next year.

The children really enjoyed meeting the team and couldn’t believe they were doing all this work for free!

Thank you to Nicholson’s Landscaping and all the team at Hillcrest Spinney House for making it such a success.
