There will be a thorough induction, fully expensed training courses, and pairing with a buddy, which together will help you expand your knowledge, get qualifications, and prepare to develop your career even further towards a Registered Manager position. It is an incredible opportunity to further your career and see it flourish.

The Role

Acorn Education and Care work directly with vulnerable children with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) and complex needs. You will be patient and compassionate and, most of all, dependable – working hard to forge a much-needed relationship of trust with those in your care.

This will involve learning about the young person’s interests as well as their dislikes and their triggers, using that connection as a launchpad for a rewarding relationship. A passion for this kind of relationship-building is essential.

You will be responsible for the wellbeing of the children or young people in your care. This will include chaperoning the children to appointments and activities, completing relevant paperwork, undertaking household tasks, and where appropriate administering medication. Our Deputy Managers help to ensure our care teams have the structure, resources and motivation needed to provide the individual, bespoke, support required by the children and young people in our care. Alongside the Registered Manager, you will deliver efficient management, delivery, and development of our residential SEMH service, ensuring the highest quality of care and support is consistently given.

Working as part of an incredible committed team, you will co-operate and share knowledge and learning to the benefit of great care. Excellent communication skills are essential, both in terms of teamwork and – most importantly – as you will be in close contact with the children you care for.

Kindness is key. In this role, a warm smile can make a massive difference.

Who are we are looking for?

To become a Deputy Manager with us, you will need to have achieved your Level 3 diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent. You should also have at least 3 years hands on experience in a similar residential environment and have been a Senior or Deputy Manager previously.

We know that the children and young people in our care can be challenging, and we are looking for Deputies who are patient and resilient, and able to give wrap around support to the team in order to deal with these challenges. You will take care of everyday needs, using a calm, reliable approach that builds trust and confidence.

You will be friendly, approachable and kind in your dealings with your team and children and young people. You will be committed to giving them the space and opportunity to thrive, playing your part in creating a nurturing environment in which they can fulfil their potential.

You will play a key role in the smooth-running of the site, and you will have a good grasp of safety and hygiene, and a conscientious dedication to the young people’s wellbeing. This is a role in which attention to detail really counts – and one that touches the real lives of people every day
