Due to the continued and exciting growth of our school we are now looking for a passionate and driven Outdoor Education Instructor to join our team.

Red Moor School is a specialist provision positioned near Lanlivery in mid-Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 36 children aged 5-16 who have social, emotional, mental health and communication difficulties or associated behaviours that challenge. Unable to achieve in a mainstream environment, our aim is to help pupils excel by providing a structured, nurturing approach, with students accessing a broad, balanced, engaging and extraordinarily rich curriculum. With its large building and extensive grounds, Red Moor School is an environment where children learn to thrive both in the classroom and outdoors, helping them to be the best.

As an outdoor instructor you will connect directly with the brilliant children and young people we care for, helping to make sure they get the very best from their education. Each individual has so much potential, and they will rely on you to guide their learning journeys.

You will assist in planning and delivering a quality Outdoor Education Provision tailored specifically around the needs of students at Red Moor School. Our Outdoor Education Instructors will ensure quality outcomes can be demonstrated for our students in Outdoor Education. To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school at all times. The post holder will be expected to work on his / her own initiative and as part of a small team. 

Supporting children with complex Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs is important and rewarding work, and you will benefit from the tremendous support offered by our hugely experienced teams. As you help our children and young people achieve real and significant progress, you will enjoy having a direct, positive impact on their developing lives.

Who we are looking for

Essential: 

  • Experience in delivering Outdoor Education Lessons
  • Full UK Driving Licence and use of own vehicle with business insurance
  • First Aid Trained
  • Self-organisation skills and strong attention to detail
  • A creative problem solver; ability to think on your feet and take a pragmatic approach to identifying the solutions required
  • Building effective relationships and influence, convince, persuade or impress others - in a way that results in acceptance, agreement or behaviour change
  • Reliable and Punctual

Desirable: 

  • Attainment of GCSE qualifications or equivalent (Level 2 Standard of Education to include Maths and English)
  • Current Beach Lifeguard Qualification
  • Knowledge and experience of running beat and immersion activities eg: Surfing, Coasteering and Junior Lifesaving

You will be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to individual need. Taking a responsive and caring approach, you may be running classroom activities, leading outdoor experiences or supervising children as they explore further afield.
