About the Role

Please note this role is based within Further Education

Are you dynamic, future focused and ready for a new challenge?

Our specialist schools and colleges are committed to helping our young people build incredible futures, empowering them to make their way in the world. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a growing team of careers advisors, ensuring some of the most vulnerable young people and adults in England are inspired to explore their full career potential and develop their employability skills.

As an apprentice careers advisor, you will work towards a Level 6 in Careers Guidance and Advice. You will learn many aspects of the role such as:

  • How to independently deliver group careers information sessions and 1-2-1 student meetings to selected schools across the UK and providing support to staff both face to face and remotely. This may involve travel and overnight stays therefore flexibility is essential. Hotel and travel expenses are provided.
  • Gain experience of understanding the local labour market across the UK and build networks and partnerships with local organisations.
  • Understand what Ofsted is looking for to be ‘outstanding’ within careers, and how we lead our schools and colleges to success.
  • Gain an understanding of careers advice within special educational needs, and how to adapt your degree to a specialist audience.

Experience of supporting young people with additional education needs and/or Autism is desirable. Experience within a special school or a specialist provision is also desirable in this role to fully appreciate the difference in needs of the young people we educate from those students in mainstream schools. The students within our specialist college facilities will often transition into adult care, therefore the right person will have the passion to ensuring the voice of our students is heard in their next journey.

As an apprentice careers advisor, you will have the ability to shape and steer our Careers and Employability provision, working on additional projects which enthuse and inspire others. Reporting to the Group Careers and Employability Lead, you will enjoy the support of a team who share the goal of improving lives, far beyond school age, and have the benefit of being part of the wider Outcomes Team, a team specifically designed to help our staff and stakeholders deliver on our group pledge to children, young people and adults.

Please note: this role involves travel and the possibility of overnight stays (dependent on your home location in relation to the schools you will support), therefore flexibility and your own car is essential. All travel expenses are covered at (£0.45p per mile), including hotels and subsistence whilst travelling.

We are looking for the right person to join a growing team and help to steer a successful Careers and Employability provision with their ideas, commitment and passion. Although initially for a fixed 24-month contract, permanent opportunities are available following completion of the degree.

Essential Requirements

  • Applicants must be willing to work to degree level and attend remote lectures as required.
