The Opportunity

Options Autism are recruiting Trainee Autism Practitioners to join our team at Barton School.

At Barton School, we work directly with vulnerable children with Autism and complex needs. Our Children exhibit a wide range of abilities, from non-verbal to high-functioning and you will use your creativity and compassion to tailor your approach to each individual’s needs. This will involve learning about the young person’s interests as well as their dislikes and their triggers, using that connection as a launchpad for a rewarding relationship. Patience and a passion for this kind of engagement is essential.

You will be responsible for the wellbeing of the children or young people in your care. This will include chaperoning the children to appointments and activities, completing relevant paperwork, delivering personal care, undertaking household tasks, and where appropriate administering medication.

The home is based in Barton-upon-Humber and is within commutable distance of Winterton, Scunthorpe and surrounding towns and villages.

The best part is you don’t need any prior experience, just the following:

  • A big heart and passion to make a difference to the residents’ lives.
  • Understanding that the people we care for can be challenging.
  • Patience, resilience, and calmness.
  • Become the “go to” person for help, support and guidance with their everyday needs.
  • Willingness to learn not only about the people we support, but the ins and outs of Adult Residential Care.

And that’s not all, we place the outcomes of the children and vulnerable young adults in our services at the heart of everything we do, so you’ll wake every day in the knowledge that your role will have a significant positive impact on the lives of others.

*You’ll work 80% of your contractual hours for 100% of your pay, more time for you! Dependent upon site location.

We are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults. All successful applicants will be subject to a fully enhanced DBS.
