About the role:

Due to continued growth we now have a fantastic opportunity for a full time Facilities Operative to join The Shires. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Site Resources Manager with the maintenance and health and safety across our 5 sites.

Reporting to the Site Resources Manager you will also be required to support the Senior Leadership team to manage general maintenance across the sites.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a Facilities Operative who has a suitable qualification (or provide evidence of experience) of one of the following trades - carpentry, plumbing, decorating. Someone who is ICT literate for updating systems, able to priorities tasks anticipate and reduce risk where possible and an effective communicator. Ideally, someone who is IOSH trained, has a current first aid certificate and experience of COSHH, PAT testing, asbestos awareness and working at heights but this is not essential.

The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to solve problems independently, with a high degree of accuracy working in accordance with the health and safety policies and procedures of the group.

We are looking for someone that is able to deal with emergencies and problems in a positive and a systematic manner, work independently and as part of a team, has a willingness to undertake additional training and understand and is able to apply health & safety procedures relevant to the job.

About us:

The Shires provides specialist education and care for young people aged 11-19 years of age with autism, associated learning disabilities and complex needs. The Shires comprises of two specialist independent schools co-located alongside two children’s homes. The Shires at Stretton and The Shires at Oakham are both situated in the beautiful county of Rutland. The Shires at Stretton provides 38 or 52-week care and educational packages for up to fourteen pupils, with space for six 38-week day placements. The Shires at Oakham provides 38 or 52-week care and educational packages for up seven pupils, with space for one 38-week day placement. At the Shires, we provide young people with the nurture, care and understanding that supports them to develop the academic, life, and independence skills they need to reach their full potential and personal aspirations.
