Job Title: School Cook

Location: Wetheringsett Manor School, Stowmarket

Salary: £18,000 per annum

Hours: 35 hours per week. Monday – Friday 7am – 2pm.

Contract: Permanent - Term Time only

We are looking for a cook to prepare and cook for pupils and our staff team. Candidates who have experience and basic knowledge of food hygiene and food preparation skills are welcomed to apply.

About the School

Wetheringsett Manor School is a new independent day SEMH School for up to 42 pupils aged 11-18. Our dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life. The site is currently going through significant refurbishment and is based in Suffolk, East Anglia. The Manor House is located in 17 acres of parkland with wooded boundaries and sits on the edge of the village of Wetheringsett. The accommodation also provides several other buildings including a converted stable block, a cottage and two industrial units.

Who are we looking for?

You will have experience and a basic knowledge of food hygiene and food preparation skills. Additionally, you will have the ability to work in a pressured environment as well as an understanding of the importance of 'Child Protection and Safeguarding' issues when working in a school setting. 

The ability to contribute to the development of our school is essential and we believe that energy, passion and a commitment to high standards are key characteristics required. Previous experience of working in a food environment is essential, excellent support skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are also just as important.

Key Responsibilities

  • To participate in the preparation of food.
  • To help to maintain a high level of cleanliness and hygiene in all catering and dining areas across the site.
  • To clean preparation equipment, areas and utensils to a high standard in a speedy manner.
  • To ensure that any food allergies and/or intolerances are catered for.
  • To ensure that all equipment and materials are used in accordance with Health & Safety guidelines.
  • To ensure that company equipment is kept in good order and propose solutions to repair any faulty tools or equipment to the appropriate manager.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by your line manager in line with the execution of your role.
