Job Title: English and Literacy lead   

Hours: Normal hours of working 8:00am – 4:30pm plus one meeting with SLT a week until 6:00pm   

Salary: up to £48,000

Due to the expansion of Bramfield House School, we are now looking for a dynamic and energetic Head of English. This role sits at the heart of the middle leadership team with opportunities to progress with good performance. We need someone who is thirsty for success, a go getter, has the highest of expectations for young people and deep understanding of the challenges that young people with additional needs face.

You may already be working as a Head of English, or you may be someone who has had significant success as a classroom teacher. You may have experience of working in a specialist setting or equally, you may be from a mainstream secondary/ primary background and are looking for a different sort of challenge. One thing is for sure, you’ll be a very positive future focused person who has a passion for equality and inclusion.

You will be working with small classes of between 4-8 young people (with support) and you’ll have a modest teaching commitment, at times you will work on a 1:1 basis. You will have a specialist team of staff to develop and work with you and you’ll be given the time and resources to help each young person excel. You will have the unequivocal support of the senior team and head teacher to create something truly exceptional.

Bramfield House School is no ordinary school; we are a very special organisation built on relationships and a common desire to help the individual.  We are an independent residential special educational needs school for boys aged 7 – 16 years who have social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties. Our boys are the centre of our focus and we do anything to help them to succeed.

The school is oversubscribed and is currently undergoing an ambitious expansion plan, culminating in the construction of a new media and sports block and farm. You will be working in a fabulously relaxed environment. The school is set in beautiful grounds just miles from the Suffolk coast and our outdoors approach is key to our success. You will be supported by a team of amazing practioners. The School has an established and innovative multidisciplinary team; we are in a great position to provide our young people with the best education and care possible. This is the job of a lifetime!

The school has its own primary provision, nurture provision as well as a secondary. This post holder will oversee a literacy team and work directly with the Headteacher to develop a new and exciting curriculum model.

You will need to have a wide commitment to the holistic development of young people, willing to stay and work with young people beyond school hours and build relationships.

Whilst previous experience of working in a SEN environment would be helpful it is not essential, excellent support skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.
