Underley Garden seeks an enthusiastic instructor/teacher who can inspire children and young people with complex learning using the great outdoors. Our children and young people need engaging, creative, practical learning and so delivering staff need the ability to thrive in a flexible curriculum structure and fully utilise our fantastic facilities to offer personalised programmes.

The right individual will help create a programme in which our children and young people can experience new challenges, gain on and build experiences and flourish outside of the typical classroom environment.

The school grounds are an amazing resource we are lucky to have and they can be used to explore and be creative within to support sessions being delivered onsite however the successful candidate, depending on their own specific qualifications, may wish to develop an adventurous offsite programme suitable to the needs of our children and young people within their timetable.

Delivering staff at UG are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate all children and young people through sessions that promote learning as well as offer experiences, develop independence and promote life skills.

Working as an Instructor/Teacher at Underley Garden, you will deliver Outdoor Education (including Duke of Edinburgh, the John Muir Award and Forest Schools if qualifications allow), planning and delivering the outdoor curriculum in accordance with the individual needs of our young people. This will promote personal development, well-being and above all, offer a range of outdoor experiences. You will set specific targets/intentions for our children and young people, work alongside other teachers to ensure curriculum coverage, brief all relevant staff on your outdoor visits and create a stimulating learning environment. Safeguarding the welfare of the young people in our care will be your primary responsibility.

This instructor/teacher position covers the planning and delivery of lessons to all of the children and young people who attend UG and so the successful candidate must commit to getting to know the needs and abilities of all prior to planning educational activities.

Position start date: June 2021 however ideally before to allow a smooth handover.
