We currently have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our clinical team based in Slinfold as we expand our clinical provision, having a real impact and implementing a holistic, therapeutic approach.

The successful applicant will work within 2 settings based on the same site: Manor House School and Burghwood House. Manor House School is a DfE registered independent school that caters for boys and girls with social, emotional and mental health needs between the ages of 7-18 years old.  Burghwood House is a dedicated residential children’s home also specifically for children with SEMH needs.

About the role

This opportunity is one of three newly commissioned posts that have been created to shape and develop our local clinical wellbeing service.  Our wellbeing approach is one that aims to address the whole person, not just from a purely clinical perspective but starting with biological aspects then moving on to physiological and psychological symptoms. A multidisciplinary perspective with an overall therapeutic approach. The successful applicant will work alongside an Occupational Therapist, a Clinical Psychologist and our Regional Head of Clinical Services in delivering the best possible outcomes to those within our care at Manor House School and Burghwood House, whilst also forming part of a group wide specialist, clinical wellbeing team.

You will provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy input to the children within our care, ensuring their well-being and best interests at all times. You will be involved in the development of diverse, effective and innovative approaches to support and develop the functional communication skills of children with complex communication needs.

 

In brief your role would involve

  • Performing Speech and Language Therapy assessments of clients with diverse presentations to identify needs and formulate intervention plans
  • Developing and supporting the delivery of individualised intervention programmes and/or group sessions using your knowledge of evidence based practice
  • Evaluating client progress, reassessing and updating intervention programmes as required
  • Providing advice, information and training to staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary support/ clinical wellbeing team, commissioners and other agencies relevant to developmental language disorder (DLD), autistic spectrum disorders, learning difficulties, attachment difficulties, and conditions.

 

Key Skills Required

As a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, the following criteria are essential:

  • Recognised and relevant Speech & Language Therapy degree, HCPC and RCSLT registration
  • Knowledge of a range of assessment tools and evidence of skilled application
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency work within a range of settings
  • Previous relevant work experience with children
  • Ideally, hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to transport due to the rural location of the site

 

Experience within our specialist client group of children who have SEMH needs is desirable
