About the Adult Service

Acorn Park is a Special Educational Needs (SEN) School and Residential Home within the Acorn Care and Education and NFA Group.

The School and Homes are within a private, 30 acre estate situated within Norfolk's picturesque and tranquil countryside, close to the town of Banham.

The aim of the site is to provide enough support to unlock each adult’s potential so they can live fulfilling and productive lives. We provide the adults with as much freedom as possible in a safe and supervised environment. This is achievable due to the dedication and support from a range of employed professionals who are passionate, reliable and understanding.

The philosophy of the home is to enable adults to reside in an environment which enables them to continue to develop their independence, gain life skills and experiences while in a safe, secure, consistent and understanding environment.  The service specialises in helping each adult to reach their potential socially and emotionally. Therefore, you will spend your time supporting the adults with everyday activities; cooking, playing games, integrating into the community and going on outings. A main responsibility of the role is safeguarding the adults within the service and ensuring their physical, emotional and personal care needs are met.

This role however, does come with some potential challenges such as long hours and supporting with behaviours that may challenge.

We need someone who can be a role model, work well within a team, has great communication skills, can manage their workload and be prepared for the varying difficulties the role may present.

This home is part of the Outcomes First Group and sits within our specialist adults division, Options for Autism.  The adult division (Options for Autism) provides a wide range of support and care to over 200 adults with autism, learning disabilities and associated other health and support needs nationally, with more homes opening in 2020. Key Responsibilities

  • To safeguard the adults within the provision
  • To carry out developmental based activities throughout the shift
  • To support and work holistically with all adults.
  • To communicate effectively and clearly by all means of communication including computer based records and written.
  • To ensure high standards of personal hygiene for each adult and support them with personal care needs.
  • To promote structure, boundaries and domestic routines; ensuring a pleasant, clean and safe environment for the adults in your care.
  • To work in line with adult’s Support Plans and Risk Assessments.
  • To provide practical support and supervision to the adult, both individually and in groups, in daily living and social skills in accordance with, enabling them to take as much responsibility as possible for all aspects of their daily life.
  • To provide and maintain good professional relationships with other members of staff and other interested parties, to contact parents, families, social services and key stakeholders professionally as required.
  • To provide a positive role model for the adults, presenting yourself in a highly professional manner at all times.
  • To undertake relevant training programmes as required by the standards as set by The Care Quality Commission and make every effort to further knowledge and understanding relating to support of adults with autism and learning difficulties.
  • Ensure the dignity and rights to privacy of all adults are maintained.
  • To work in accordance with the CQC standards for the home and co-operate with any inspection process.
  • To work in partnership with colleagues and other professionals to meet the social, emotional, education, health and mental health needs of the adults.
  • To follow policies, procedures and guidelines of Acorn Park, adult services and the Group

Essential criteria

  • You must understand some of the difficulties that adults on the Autistic Spectrum may present
