New primary school opens as Hillcrest Glebedale relocates and expands

On Friday 15th December, Hillcrest Glebedale School situated in Staffordshire welcomed prospective parents, carers and local authorities for an open day to commemorate the school’s expansion and the new primary provision now on offer.

Run by Hillcrest Children’s Services and part of Outcomes First Group, the Ofsted Outstanding rated school provides education, therapy and support for boys and girls aged 7 to 19 who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties as well as other complex needs.

Previously known as Options College Stoke, the school is proud to offer specialist education and support to secondary and primary aged pupils.

Glebedale’s new primary school aims to provide a stimulating, nurturing and safe environment to re-engage KS2 pupils in education and allow them to re-discover the fun in learning. The curriculum is underpinned by SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) which fosters personal development and supports young people to develop the skills and confidence to achieve.

The school are proud to offer a high staff to student ratio, so there are never more than five pupils per class. Each lesson has its own teacher and teaching assistant with additional support provided if required. Extensive and individualised resources also allow a bespoke approach to education and ensure the needs of all the pupils are met.

The multi-disciplinary team includes Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Clinical Psychologists and Art Therapists who work together to form personalised plans for children who need extra support.

Furthermore, an already broad curriculum is enhanced with a range of courses designed to address the social and emotional aspects of learning. Examples include Forest Schools, Massage in School, Build to Express, Mindfulness programmes, SEAL and Nurture.

Karen Caswell, Head Teacher at the school commented: “We love what we do and the differences we make to children’s and families’ lives. The expansion and new primary school are fantastic and will be a huge benefit to so many.

“The open day was a great success and we look forward to the future ahead and all that the new offering will bring.”

Committed to empowering individuals to learn, achieve and succeed, the school provide a person centred approach to education and ensure every pupil is given the care, support and guidance to reach their full potential.
